Gabrielle Giffords and Mark Kelly: Following the tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary School, former congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords and her husband, Navy combat veteran and NASA astronaut Captain Mark Kelly, founded Americans for Responsible Solutions to encourage elected officials to stand up for solutions to prevent gun violence, protect responsible gun ownership, and make communities safer. Congresswoman Giffords was shot in 2011 during a “Congress on Your Corner” event while representing Arizona’s Eighth Congressional District.
